By BHEKISISA MAGONGO on September 25,2009 The Times of Swaziland MBABANE – Manzini Wanderers, which is still hogging the limelight for the wrong reasons, will have something to cheer when they launch a new Mitre soccer jersey for the season. The ‘Weslians’, who face over E25 000 in fines for Sunday’s violence at Somhlolo Stadium, have struck a deal with the South African based sportswear company Mitre. The club has, in preparation for the sponsorship, already purchased two sets of soccer jersey, to be used this season. The consignment is expected in two weeks time, after the earlier one had to be returned because it was not in the colours of the team. The deal will see the maroon and white outfit getting a technical sponsor from the company that once sponsored Soweto based PSL side Moroka Swallows. The deal also includes Mbabane Swallows. Wanderers’ MC Chairman Bheki Gamedze confirmed and stated that they are waiting for the consignment to arrive. “We delegated Babsy and Mkoko to facilitate the deal on our behalf. But what I know is that we paid for the consignment and we were told to wait for three weeks because they didn’t have our colours on stock,” he said. The team treasurer, Mbongeni Mkoko said at the moment they could only confirm that the team would be wearing a new Mitre jersey, and that concerning the bigger deal there was still much that needs to be done. “I can’t disclose figures at the moment but the truth is that we have purchased two sets of jerseys, ahead of the bigger deal. But the latter deal will include replica jerseys for the supporters,” he said. He said the club’s marketing department, headed by Malume Khumalo, will be one working on the matter when it is finally launched. Wanderers have been using adidas and Nike jerseys in the past, they will become the first local team to wear the Mitre label. |
