MBABANE- Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) has failed to insure premier league players as per the rules of the organisation.

According to Article 17 of the PLS Rules it is the responsibility of the league to insure players and clubs officials whilst on official duty which costs, premiums and other related expenses shall be recouped from the clubs.

However, PLS Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sidney Simelane said the major setback for not making progress on the matter was finance.

He said clubs decided against taking up insurance because the quoted premiums were unaffordable in view of the revenue generated from gate takings.

Specify
The CEO could not specify how much premium the teams could not afford to pay.

Simelane said the PLS would only be ready to effect the rule once the Premier League clubs were in a position to pay the premiums.

He explained that the choice of insurer which clubs would choose once teams could afford would be based on services, elements and costs.

Football Association’s (CEO) Frederick Mngomezulu said the PLS was the one to facilitate the insuring of Premier League teams.

He said the FA only insures national team players when they compete in international football tournaments.
