EZULWINI – Swaziland Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (SPTC) has forked out a staggering E1 120 000 for a Top Eight knockout tournament.
The tournament will replace the Trade Fair Cup and is scheduled to be staged between August and September.
In his remarks during the launch held at Happy Valley Resort in Ezulwini, acting SPTC Managing Director, Titus Nzima said: “The Top Eight teams will sweat it out during the 10-day SwaziTelecom Charity FixedFone Top Eight knockout tournament. The sponsorship is E1 120 000,” He said much to the applause of the audience.
The champions of the new tournament will take home E300 000 with the runner’s up netting E200 000.
“SPTC pledges a car, office rental for 12 months, tracksuits and football jersey for teams whose fans will purchase the FixedFone service form the week of the June 12, 2011 to September 6, 2011,” he said.
To qualify team supporters should at least purchase 500 FixedFones. He then encouraged teams and the entire Swazi populace to start voting from onset.

Special tribute for Lungelo from Minister Benedict

MATSAPHA – Acting Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Benedict Xaba has hailed outstanding Red Lions striker Lungelo Tempe.
The dazzling striker was dubbed ‘the Thulani Serero’ of the MTN National First Division awards when he won the Player of the Season, Top Goal Scorer award and three Player of the Month awards. And the Shiselweni 11 MP who is stood in for the recently married Minister Hlobisile Ndlovu said the youngster whose 26 goals took his team to the premier league needs to be nurtured further.
“Lungelo has shown his potential and I think we should invest more in his talent,” he said.
The Player took home a total of E9 500 during the event.
Meanwhile, Welile Maseko was crowned the best player in the premier league after helping his club win their maiden MTN League title.
He was the last player in the season to win the Player of the Month.

... MTN CEO hails exciting season
The exciting season has received glowing tribute from Swazi MTN CEO Ambrose Dlamini.
Dlamini in his speech during the prize presentation at Esibayeni Lodge on Wednesday night hailed a crisis-free season.
“We have noted the improved management of the games by the PLS, hence we had a season that showed great commitment, perseverance and brilliance,” he said.
He applauded the teams for what was a tight competition that kept everyone in suspense in as far as determining the champions.
“It was not until the last minute of the games that we were able to know the winner, and the supporters just liked enjoyed every moment of the competition,” he said.
Green Mamba won the title on superior goals scored over second placed Manzini Wanderers as both teams ended with 50 points each.
...PLS will embrace corporate governance
PLS is ready to move with the times and fully embraces the dictates of corporate governance as a way of taking the sport forward.
Chairman Victor Gamedze in a speech delivered by executive committee member Mduduzi Tsotsi Mabila acknowledged that the organisation has made mistakes in the past, but was ready to improve.
“We would love to thank Swazi MTN for showing confidence in us. We have made mistakes in the past and we are ready to correct them. We will surely embrace corporate governance as an organisation,” he said.
The two parties have been in partnership since 2001 when the mobile phone company took over the league sponsorship.
 
...Govt will support G. Mamba in Africa
Acting Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Benedict Xaba has pledged government commitment towards helping Africa Cup bound Green Mamba.
This was during the MTN League prize presentation, where the Correctional Services side received its E600 000 first prize money at Esibayeni Lodge.
“Government will help Green Mamba in Africa,” he said.
Meanwhile, Xaba further praised Mhlambanyatsi Rovers for showing professionalism in their final game against Green Mamba.
“I think Rovers deserve praise for showing great commitment against Green Mamba even when they had nothing to play for. They played competitively throughout,” he said.

Red Lions Lungelo roars in MTN League awards

MATSAPHA – First Division League side, Red Lions and Sihlangu striker Lungelo Tembe walked away with E9 500 plus five trophies after winning the Player of the Season, Top Goal Scorer and three player of the month awards.
The player pocketed E4 000 for the Player of the Season award and the same amount for the Top Goal Scorer award after he scored 26 goals for the 2010/11 season. These awards also came with trophies. The striker also won E1 500 for the three Player of the Month awards for February, May and September.
The player said hard working and dedication to his football career has ensured that he achieves the great results at the end of the season.
‘We worked as a team and winning the award has inspired me to work hard for the team even next year. I would like to dedicate the awards to the team’s director, Busi and my mother who always advice me to take the sport seriously,’ he said.

MATSAPHA – Tambankulu Callies Lucky Hlatshwako says winning the MTN First Division League Coach of the Season award has inspired him to work hard and do much better in his career for the next season.
Hlatshwako who got E2 000 plus a trophy said team work has contributed to his achievement. ‘We worked as a team and the players were always fighting hard in ensuring that we win our games. We will continue to be disciplined and work hard even in the premier league,’ he said. The coach further said the team management will soon meet the Tambankulu Estate management in asking for financial help as running a Premier League team will be expensive.
‘It’s a challenge to all of us as the team has to compete and not participate in the league. Our players should also not be demoralised and should make sure that their welfare is looked after,’ he said.

MATSAPHA – MTN Premier League PRO of the Season award winner and Mbabane Highlanders PRO Dumisani Sibandze has attributed his winning the award for the second time due to the support he is accorded by the team’s Chairman Ngomuyayona Gamedze.
Sibandze said the chairman has been supportive in terms of ensuring that he executes his duties without facing financial problems.
‘I would like to thank the management and players for their support as well. I would like to also thank the supporters committee and the other PROs from other teams who are my inspiration,’ he said.
Meanwhile, Referee of the Season award winner Simanga Nhleko said he was excited by the win and dedicated it to his family.
‘I would like to thank MTN for recognising the work we do in the game. I hope some of my colleagues will work hard to get the chance to be recognised as well,’ he said.

Banda wins Coach of the Season award
(At Esibayeni Lodge) 
MBABANE – Coach of the Season Francis Mkhulu Banda has urged the club to prioritise on signing a defender and a box to box striker.
The Zambian born mentor was chosen as the Coach of the Season in the recently ended campaign and he took home a sum of E6 600 for his achievement. The amount adds to the E60 000 incentives he received from his team.
“It’s a great feeling to win the award because is something I can look back and cherish. This is something that has been achieved through hard work,” he said.
He attributed the club success this season to a comprehensive pre-season training they had. He acknowledged though that they encountered problems along the way, but were still able to win the title.
“With five games to go we knew that we had to hold on to the top position. And it was thank to our style of play which put special emphasis on speed,” he said.
‘Mkhulu’ as he is affectionately called led the club to its maiden MTN League triumph. Last season former Young Buffaloes coach Zenzele Ace Dlamini won the award after also leading the army side to the first ever league title.
